Countdown to Ultra Music Festival-8 DAYS!

In our second installment of our daily series we will look at Nick van de Wall who more commonly is known as…

Afrojack

This 23 year old Dutch producer/DJ has absolutely blown up in the last year releasing numerous bangin’ hits and putting on some stunning performances.  Last week at the International Dance Music Awards which is part of the World Music Conference Afrojack took the awards for best breakthrough solo artist and best remixer.  I doubt many people were surprised by this.  Some of his notable recent singles include “A Msterdamn,” with the Partysquad “Take over Control,” and “Bangduck.”

We have had the privilege to witness his unreal talent on two occasions.  First this summer at Electric Daisy Carnival where he turned the LA Coliseum into a sea of raving lunatics and again on New Years at Together as One.  While we were only able to catch the tail end of his performance at TOA we did get the special privilege of going nuts in the Bassrush Arena when he dropped his remix of “Barbara Streisand” and his original “Take over Control.”

Afrojack had quite a huge 2010, but was relatively unknown last year at UMF 2010.  The event promoters felt that they would switch his time with Wolfgang Gartner’s, confusing many of the festival goers, and thoroughly pissing me off.  This year, Afrojack has released “Chords” a progressive tune with darker elements similar to his work with other dutch maestro Bobby Burns.  Afrojack’s sound is quite daunting to lesser known producers, his physical size is quite daunting to any man (the goliath of a man stands 7 feet tall!!).  Whether you’re catching him in Las Vegas at his residency at the XS Nightclub or at Ultra Music Festival next weekend, be prepared for a Afrojack-y 2011.

For those lucky enough to be in Miami for UMF, here’s a little preview of what Afrojack might be playing at his various sets.  This stuff is like Pringles with chocolate, but nice!!!

  1. I literally learned about the majority of this, but never the less, I still considered it turned out valuable. Sweet task!
